A plan has been implemented by the Scottish Government with the aim of encouraging residents to think about how they handle and manage their food waste. The plan will see the country aim to reduce their food waste by a huge total of one third by 2025.
The plan aims to show Scottish Nationals what they can do to reduce the amount of food waste they are producing as well as minimise unavoidable food waste such as egg shells, fruit cores and tea bags.
It is estimated that although over 80% have access to food recycling facilities, only 55% actually utilise the facilities. With over 600,000 tonnes of food waste a year being binned, this could go towards environmental initiatives such as producing green energy.
