Last week the Environment Agency have published a new charging scheme for regulatory permits and services which it claims will ensure businesses cover the costs of services rather than the public. Many compliance schemes have expressed their concerns about the level of fees and charges to be imposed by the EA. Some annual WEEE charges which the EA levies on producers would more than triple from 1 January 2019.
Existing Agency fees are £210 for companies with a turnover below £1m. For companies with a turnover above £1million the fee is to be £445 . The announcement will see an increase of both of these charges to £750 in January 2019.
